Hospital staff wear Pink and Pearls for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital staff members come together in their Pink and Pearls to honor breast cancer survivors and spread awareness.
The annual pink and pearls event hopes to raise awareness for breast cancer and the importance of seeking screenings such as mammography’s or self breast exams along with celebrating survivors and other types of cancer screenings.
Stage 3 breast cancer survivor, Becky Bolton, spoke about her journey hardships she endured while battling the disease. Bolton tells WVVA she strongly advocates for early prevention.
“Early detection by just doing a quick, simple mammogram, the amount of time and the energy that it takes is very small in comparison to what it’s going to cost you if you don’t.”
President and CEO of Princeton Community Hospital Karen Bowling says every woman should test for early screening, as survival for stage 1 breast cancer has a 99% success rate.
