BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA) — Raleigh General Hospital has announced a significant expansion of its critical care capabilities with the official launch of a new, around-the-clock Intensivist Program.

The program is designed to provide 24/7 dedicated critical care expertise specifically for patients requiring treatment in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). By having specialists trained in critical care medicine available on-site at all hours, the hospital aims to ensure continuous patient monitoring, faster intervention times and immediate support for complex, life-saving medical decisions.

Led by Program Director Dr. Hassan Suleiman and supported by Dr. Richard McNeilly, the new initiative is backed by two board-certified physicians affiliated with Apogee Physicians, a leading hospital-based physician service group.

“At Raleigh General Hospital, our goal is to ensure patients have access to the highest level of care close to home,” Dr. Suleiman said. “This new program provides continuous critical care expertise and allows our team to work collaboratively to deliver timely care when patients need it most.”

Intensivists specialize in managing highly complex, serious medical conditions that require precise, intensive monitoring. Raleigh General Hospital CEO David Brash emphasized that the program is a crucial step forward for local healthcare access.

“This program represents another important investment in the quality and scope of services available at Raleigh General Hospital,” Brash said. “The addition of dedicated intensivists strengthens our clinical capabilities and supports our commitment to providing advanced care for southern West Virginia residents without requiring them to travel far from home.”
