BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - In the city of Bluefield, the Winter Warmer is just around the corner, with Bluefield Beautification Commission gearing up to host the event at the Bluefield Arts Center.

“Come out and support the event. It’s a lot of fun. You get to visit. The snow’s been bad, so the weather is supposed to be good, so everyone should come out and support the beautification commission,” said Debrah Ammar, a member of the Bluefield Beautification Commission.

This year’s gathering plans to bring the musical talents of Victor Lawson and Boogie Chillen, a “good-time party band” known for the blues and “down in the mud” rock n’ roll.

With good music comes a variety of food served by David’s Downtown and refreshment courtesy of local beer vendors.

The annual event has been a major fundraiser for the commission for years, with money gathered going to make Bluefield a prettier place to live.

“We use the money for the flowers you see planted all over town – the benches, trash receptacles, trees, a lot of planting going on, so it all goes back into the city,” Ammar said.

The commission has made great efforts with their flower displays, planting colorful collections downtown and at the city park, giving Bluefield an aura of natural beauty.

The Winter Warmer is anticipated to have a big turnout, with past get-togethers bringing citizens and out-of-towners together.

“Come out, enjoy the camaraderie, see your friends, bring your family, bring your neighbors, come out, enjoy the music and have a good time,” Ammar said.

Tickets will be available at Grant’s Supermarket locations, David’s Downtown, and the Goodykoontz Drug Store.
