Virginia high school coach wanted on child pornography charges: 10 warrants issued

WISE, Va (WVVA) - UPDATE: The U.S. Marshals Service announced on its Facebook page today that Travis Lee Turner is wanted by federal authorities for possession of child pornography and was last seen in Wise, Virginia.

The agency asked anyone with information to submit tips here. The U.S. Marshals Service is offering up to a $5,000 reward.

Authorities did not provide additional details in the post. Members of the public are urged not to approach or attempt to detain Turner; instead contact the U.S. Marshals or local law enforcement with any information.

The Virginia State Police say they obtained 10 warrants Monday in connection with the disappearance of a local high school football coach. Travis L. Turner, 46, of Appalachia is now considered a fugitive and is wanted on five counts of possession of child pornography and five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor, authorities said. The investigation remains active and additional charges may be filed.

What happened

State police agents assigned to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation Wytheville Field Office visited Turner’s residence in Appalachia on Thursday, Nov. 20th as part of the early stages of their inquiry. Officers described that visit as investigative and said it was not an arrest attempt. While agents were en route to the residence, they were informed Turner was no longer at the location.

Police said they have deployed search and rescue teams, drones and k9s to assist in locating Turner. Virginia State Police identified locating Turner safely as their top priority and urged anyone with information to come forward. Tips may be submitted anonymously.
