Flood threat continues this evening, another round of heavy rain likely Sunday morning before changing to snow Sunday afternoon

Active weather continues this evening as heavy rain causes widespread flooding across the area. Flash flood warnings remain in effect with a FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY for Mercer and Summers counties until 10:45 PM and Tazewell County until 11:30PM. Emergency management reports 2 to 4 inches of rain have already fallen with this batch. Expect flash flooding to persist through this evening and into tonight.

The rain will start to wind down after 7 or 8 PM. Cloudy skies will take over overnight before the next batch of rain moves through on Sunday morning. This rain could be heavy at times, with possible rumbles of thunder.

Flood Watches will remain in effect until Sunday evening.

Rain will transition to snow by Sunday afternoon, with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches in most areas across the western slopes, a trace to 1 inch to the east, and 4 to 8 inches possible in western Greenbrier and northwestern Pocahontas counties.

Winds will strengthen on Sunday, with west-northwest winds sustaining at 15 to 25 MPH, and gusts potentially reaching 50 MPH. Due to the heavy rainfall this week and today, the wind may bring down trees and branches on Sunday. The weather will slowly calm down by Monday.
