Pop-Up Richlands gearing up for start of business classes
RICHLANDS, Va. (WVVA) - If you’re considering wading into the waters of the business world in Tazewell County, there’s a new program under development to help.
Pop-Up Richlands includes free business classes, and a chance to see $5,000 in reimbursement for your own business venture.
“They will learn financials, legals, how to write a business plan,” said Ashley Harris, Richlands’ Economic Development Director.
“They need a pathway to that passion,” said Blake Ray, Chair of Richlands’ Industrial Development Authority. “The household income median average here is less than $28,000 a year.”
Participants in the program will present a business plan and presentation to six out-of-town judges after completing the six weeks of bootcamp. Ray said the judges are outsiders to avoid bias. Up to three groups can be selected to receive the $5,000 reimbursement.
“We’ll lock arms with them with this program and help them every step of the way,” said Mary Ann Strong, Richlands Town Council member. “Entrepreneurs who just need some support. Some encouragement.”
“I think it starts locally, it starts in towns,” said Shanna Plaster, Northwestern District Supervisor. “I feel very passionate about this program and I hope it spreads across our whole county.”
Classes are set to begin Thursday, March 24. Ray said registration will remain open until start of that first class. You can find more info here.
