ATHENS, W.Va. (WVVA) - Next week is Groundhog Day. That means Concord Charlie will be making his forecast in Athens! This also means the school will be having their Groundhog Day breakfast which is making a comeback after being cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

Professor R.T Hill started the tradition in 1978 to celebrate Appalachian heritage.

“We’ve been doing this at Concord for a long time and so we’re glad that even with the pandemic we’re still able to have people on campus, we know it will be a smaller event. Still just be able to come out and really celebrate this unique holiday and to be able to honor Mr. Hicks and just celebrate a little bit in this way. " said Vice President of Advancement, Sarah Turner.

Princeton Rescue Squad CEO, Stacey Hicks is this years Grand Groundhog Watcher.

You can make online registrations for the breakfast here: Groundhog Breakfast | Concord University
