BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - Construction of the new Grant St. Bridge in Bluefield, W.Va. is expected to complete around September of 2022, according to Kerry Stauffer, the city’s Engineering Services and Stormwater Director.

“If there’s no more delays, weather delays or other delays, we should be looking at a new bridge by about September of next year,” said Stauffer. “So we’re real excited about that.”

The second half of the bridge came down Monday afternoon. Crews were still working to clear debris on Tuesday, but Stauffer believes Bluefield residents will be able to see some real results shortly.

“They’ll work the rest of this week diligently to get all the rest of the demolition taken care of,” said Stauffer. “And then in the next few weeks we should start seeing progress toward new construction and a new bridge.”

In recent weeks, heavy snow contributed to minor delays in the project. Stauffer said the project is still on track though, as his team works to restore a direct route to town for residents who previously relied on the Grant St. Bridge for decades.
