Woman in police custody after hospital altercation

PRINCETON, W.Va. (WVVA) - UPDATE
According to police, Compton attacked Princeton Community Hospital staff after refusing to comply with the hospital’s mask guidelines.
Compton complained about the hospital’s visitation policy, and was not complying with the hospital’s mask guidelines, hospital employees told Sr. Patrolman Earl D. Leftwich of the Princeton Police Department.
The criminal complaint also stated Compton was “cursing hospital staff and yelling profusely.”

A woman is in police custody following an incident in the Princeton Community Hospital (PCH) ER.
On January 22nd, members of the Princeton Police Department responded to the ER located inside Princeton Community Hospital after receiving a call about an irate visitor.
Once police arrived they found a woman, later identified as Melissa Compton, wrestling on the floor with an ER staff member. They also noticed the security guard was bleeding from his eye, nose, and finger.
When Officers began to take over the situation, Compton then turned and bit Patrolman B.L. Charette on his shoulder causing an immediate wound.
According to the Princeton Police Department, Compton was in a verbal argument with hospital staff regarding PCH policy. She then leaped over her mother to punch the hospital staff repeatedly in the face causing several lacerations and bleeding.
Melissa Compton was placed under arrest for Malicious Wounding, Battery, Battery on a Police Officer, and Battery on a Healthcare Worker. She was transported to Southern Regional Jail pending arraignment.
