Bluefield Fire Department gives you tips for space heater safety

A space heater is blamed for a deadly fire in the Bronx earlier this month that killed 17 people. According to the National Fire Protection Association, heating equipment is the leading cause of home fires between December and February. About one out of five of those fires occurred in January.
Carr says, that the problems that they see in this are mainly concern older heating systems. But, it’s important to be careful, regardless of what your heat source is.
For those of you out there who own a chimney, the Bluefield Fire Department suggests that you have it cleaned regularly. And that when you do plan on cozying up by the fire that you use dried season wood.
