BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - The US Marine Corps recognized a very special birthday yesterday.
Sergeant Elsi Finch Hartmann just celebrated her 100th birthday. Sargent Hartmann was one of the first women to enlist into the Marine Corps during World War II.
She worked at the Marine Corps Headquarters in Arlington, Va., and was awarded the American Campaign Medal and WWII Victory Medal.
When asked what the secret to living a long life, Sergeant Hartman said, “no smoking, very little drinking, pursuing personal interests, and getting a good night’s sleep.”
From all of us here at WVVA we want to wish Sergeant Hartman a very happy birthday.
