Dr. David Robinson Bard
Athens, W.Va. (WVVA) -
The Memorial Service of Beloved Professor at Concord University, Dr. David Robinson Bard was held in the Ballroom of the Student Center today, January 8th, from 1 pm- 3 pm.
There was music and memories shared, along with copies of his book. Donations for the book will go to the David Bard Scholarship Fund.
Many were there to share memories of the professor among the speakers was Dr. Jerry Beasly who said, “I quickly learned that what makes a great college is great teachers and David Bard was indeed in every way and his family personified that with the kinds of hospitality, caring, and generosity.
One of his former students spoke as well: Jie Chen said, " Dr. Bard and Carol were my host family. They were there for all of my major milestones. They were there when I graduated from Concord University, again when I graduated from Michigan Law. Dr. Bard and Carol were also there when I got married. When my family from China couldn’t make it, it was Dr. Bard who walked me down the aisle and danced with me for the traditional Father-Daughter dance.”
To Jie Chen and many more at his memorial today, Dr. Bard was not only a tough professor, but he was an understanding, caring, charismatic professor, that cared and showed interest in his work and school.
Dr. Kendra Boggess, Concord University President said, " He inspired many, many people. Some who were in public life and politics, others who became teachers and I just think overall he just had such a kind way and such an inspirational way while also holding people’s feet to the fire to make sure they could do the best they could do.”
Dr. Bard will be missed by many and Concord University won’t be the same without him.
