COVID-19 cases rise in the two Virginias
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - As we head into the holiday season, COVID cases are spiking once again in The Two Virginias. West Virginia has seen over 1,200 cases in the past week and according to our Coronavirus Czar, the Delta Variant is proving to be deadly.
Over in the commonwealth, the state is approaching 1 million total cases. Representatives from the Virginia Department of Health said the holiday season could make things worse.
However, as the new Omicron variant makes headlines across the nation, Virginia reports an uptick in vaccination rates. As of today, West Virginia has 8,249 active positive cases and Virginia is quickly approaching the mark of 1 million total cases.
Officials from the DHHR and the VDOH urge residents of The Two Virginias to receive their vaccinations.
