BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA) - Friday, December 3rd, is opening night of the Beckley Dance Theatre’s Nutcracker performance.

The Beckley ballet is held each year at Woodrow Wilson High School. This year’s performance brings the best of local talent but also professional dancers from the National Ballet of Canada.

Friday’s performance (opening night) starts at 7:30 p.m. But if you miss that performance, there is another showing on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Creative Director Jerry Rose recommends guests arrive half an hour early to secure the best seats.

“We’re carrying on a tradition that began in 1892 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Here in Southern West Virginia and Beckley, we’re being influenced by the same beautiful music and the lovely children’s story that gives us all a taste of youth again.”

Tickets to each showing are $15 at the door.

There will be additional performances later in the month at The Greenbrier on December 29th and 30th.
