MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) - Community Connections is teaming up with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department to help save lives this holiday season.

The two organizations will be helping to run extra patrols in Matoaka, Lashmeet, Montcalm, and other hotspots for overdose deaths this holiday season.

Community Connections says, that around the holidays, there can be a spike in overdose deaths, due to feelings of hopelessness, depression, and other mental health issues that have seen spikes at this time in years past.

Leaders at Community Connections hope that their efforts will help decrease the number of overdoses over the holidays.

Community connections also say, that this is a community effort to help lower the number of drug-related deaths this holiday season. They suggest, that you be more aware of your surroundings and if you know anyone who may be struggling with drug overdose-related symptoms, to call 911.
