Winterplace Ski Resort gearing up for opening
FLAT TOP, W.Va. (WVVA) - Ski season is just around the corner, and Winterplace Ski Resort is in high gear getting snow made and on the ground.
It’s a winter wonderland on Flat Top Mountain this week as cooperative weather and colder temperatures have provided ideal conditions for over 100 snow-making machines to get the slopes coated just ahead of the resort’s opening.
Whether old man winter is ready or not, Winterplace is looking forward to welcoming guests in mid-December, so the snow must fall.
“You really only ski on a couple of inches, but what we like to do is get a good coating,” said Tom Wagner, Executive Vice President at Winterplace. “We’ll pile the snow up, the machine-made snow that we make is actually more durable than the snow that falls from the sky. It’s got a higher moisture content, and it actually will freeze up and and it melts much slower. So we like to get a good solid base down.”
Wagner says that frequent Winterplace skiers are already calling asking about tickets and planning their trips.
Winterplace is currently taking applications for seasonal staff of all types. Positions include instructors, lift operators, security officers, cashiers and more.
