MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) - Today is Great American Smoke Out Day and Mercer County is doing their part in fighting for those trying to get a smoke free life. The County is joining Raleigh and Monroe Counties in suing the electronic cigarette company Juul. Juul has previously been sued for targeting teenagers and knowingly increasing youth addiction to nicotine.

Mercer County Commissioner Greg Puckett explains the importance of taking a stand against companies like Juul.

“Juul is a problem. At the county commissioner level we have entered into a lawsuit with the Juul corporation. Raleigh County actually did that as of yesterday. S you’re starting to see these environmental things come into play where we’re holding these companies accountable for the product their serving to the people we have. So the more we do that, the more we hold people accountable, the better off we’ll all be and raise our overall health because of it.” said Mercer County Commissioner Greg Puckett.

According to Puckett they are also working to get vaping detectors places in schools in Mercer County to deter the youth from using electronic cigarettes.
