PRINCETON, W.Va. (WVVA) - On Tuesday in Princeton, Governor Justice made a surprise visit to Mercer Elementary.

The visit was a part of the governor’s “I Got Vaxxed” contest. The governor and Babydog presented a check to the school for $50,000 dollars.

We caught up with governor Justice after the presentation, continues to stress the importance of vaccination.

“All we’re trying to do is promote more education about being vaccinated. Not invade anybodies freedoms or rights, I’m staunchly standing behind that. At the end of the day, I get all my energy from kids. I really think that a governor needs to be with the kids and kids see him.”

- Gov. Jim Justice, (R) West Virginia

A total of 77 schools in The Mountain State entered in to win the prize based on their schools vaccination numbers. In total, 12 schools in West Virginia, including elementary, middle, high and private schools--were awarded 50-thousand dollars based on vaccination numbers.
