Graham Intermediate School puts on Veterans Day event
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - The official Veterans Day holiday has passed, but recognition for the men and women who serve continues.
Graham Intermediate School in Tazewell County held a veterans day event today. Students at the school shared why their Veterans Day event is important to them.
“It feels really good to honor them because they have served and to make them feel good.” - Eddie Fanning | student at Graham Intermediate School
“It’s very important because these people put their lives out on the line for us. They were our warriors. They did everything they could for us and we honor that.” - Laine Pennington | student at Graham Intermediate School
Some students say they recognize the sacrifices our military service members make.
“I would say that they deserve everything because they help everybody and they protect our country.” - Annabelle Hauchins | student at Graham Intermediate School
Veterans on hand say they appreciate the event and find it important to let these students know, not only why they serve, but what it takes to serve.
“I think it’s good that we pass this on through the kids and that the kids have awareness of what service and sacrifices were made in past generations.” - Rick Holman | Veteran in Bluefield, VA
“I think it’s just something we need to do in our community more. To bring awareness to the young people of the veterans and their sacrifice and things they have done for this country because freedom is not free.”
