Sometimes the news can't merely be reported from the studio; sometimes the story must be brought to you from the action itself! This is where Matt Irvin comes in. Matt is the Satellite Uplink Truck Operator and Videographer for WVVA TV. Originally from Tazewell, VA, Matt cares about getting our area's top news stories to you as they happen.
Matt began his broadcasting career in radio at the age of 16. In 2003, Matt came to work for WVVA as a Master Control Operator before heading for Nashville, TN where he attended the SAE Institute of Technology's Audio Engineering program. After graduation, and a brief time at WSMV-TV in Nashville, Matt returned to WVVA in May of 2005 when he gladly accepted the opportunity to operate the area's first permanent television satellite uplink truck for WVVA.
In the last decade, Matt has helped cover some of the area's most memorable and impacting news stories. He has also filmed and produced beautifully descriptive and scenic area “spotlight” pieces, which earned him the West Virginia Broadcaster's Association's 2014 Photojournalist of the year award.
Along with his news-gathering duties, Matt also voices commercial advertisements for WVVA and other QNI television stations.
