Virginia speed related car crashes

Posted:

The Virginia Highway Safety Department has released some alarming information concerning car crashes related to speed in Virginia.

In 2006, Virginia saw nearly 28,000 car crashes. Theses crashes were caused by many different diversions, but the most common seems to be speeding.

There were over 400 fatalities in the car accidents in 2006. The age group most affected by these deaths was 21-35, which accounted for 147 deaths.

Shockingly, nineteen-year-olds were the drivers behind the wheel in over 2,000 crashes. The months of June and October were the two most deadly months in 2006 with 41 and 46 fatalities respectively.

The Department of Motor Vehicles offers safety tips such as always buckle up and never drink and drive. Also, be a courteous driver by not tailgating and avoid blocking the passing lane.
