Where will the G-Men call home next football season?

Mitchell Stadium has been the field where many local teams call "home" for years.

Up until a few weeks ago, the ownership of the stadium was up in the air. As a result, Graham High School, through the Tazewell School Board, arranged for the team to play at Tazewell High School in the fall.

Now, a $50,000 donation has been given to Graham High to insure that the team continues to play at Mitchell Stadium.

According to the Tazewell County Superintendent, the stadium is historic for the schools. "Most folks are pretty comfortable playing there. It's where their dads played and their brothers and sisters cheered or played in the band. Everybody has wonderful memories... so I guess, historically speaking, most of those folks would want to play in that stadium."

The next step in deciding the fate of the G-Men will be on July 23rd when the school board re-voted on where Graham will play. If approved, the next day, the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors will also vote.

Charles Stacy, a member of the Board said, "I have every expectation that game [Graham vs. Bluefield] will continue to be played at Mitchell Stadium. Now the games that follow it the rest of the season may not, but I have a feeling a deal will very easily be had."

Bluefield College is planning to return to Mitchell Stadium for the same amount they agreed upon last year, although no contracts have been proposed yet. According to President Olive, the city of Bluefield charged the college $50,000 last year, the same amount that Graham High School paid, and $10,000 more than what Bluefield High School paid at $40,000.

Bluefield College, Bluefield High School and Graham High School are waiting on the city of Bluefield to provide a lease agreement at Mitchell Stadium for the upcoming school year, but before the athletic season kicks off, there will be a lot of negotiating happening on each end.
