According to court documents, as officers were attempting to secure the crime scene on Monday, they were approached by two witnesses who claimed they, along with the shooting victim Amber Meadows, had been forcibly held against their will at the Travel Lodge over the previous several hours.

Both witnesses said they were sitting in their vehicle at 4223 Robert C. Byrd Drive when they were approached by four people. The women were ordered to accompany three men and a woman to the Travel Lodge while being held at gun point.

At the hotel, the complaint said each girl's cell phone was seized and they were forced to stay on one bed. They said one man "repeatedly demanded that Ms. Meadows provide what they believed to be drugs or money for which he felt they owed."

After one particular heated exchange, court records said one man took Ms. Meadows to the back of room 47, where they heard more verbal arguing and a loud gunshot. "Following the gunshot, they observed the suspects fleeing the room.:"

The two female captives were able to escape.

Detectives were also able to obtain various firearms and ammunition at the scene with a receipt for ammunition purchased at the Walmart Store on North Eisenhower Drive. The complaint said surveillance footage from Walmart confirmed the four suspects were present at the location during the purchase of two boxes of ammunition (Calibers 9mm and .38SPL)
