PINEVILLE, W.Va. (WVVA) A Wyoming County mine makes good on its promise to pay more than a million dollars in back taxes.

An agreement is reached between the Pinnacle mine and leaders in Wyoming County.

According to Prosecutor Mike Cochrane, Pinnacle mine in Pineville made the payment on Thursday ahead of the June 20th deadline. He said the money supports everything from Wyoming County schools to the basic functioning of government.

"Seventy-two percent of it goes to the school board and the rest of it will be put in the coffers to support city government, including our police force."

The missing tax payments were due on April 1, 2018.

"It's very important to receive the money they're actually due pursuant to law. So we're very happy that it's done," added Cochrane.

Pinnacle mine is owned by Seneca Coal.
