With a new head coach in town, the James Monroe Mavericks have a new motto going into the 2018 season.
"Determination. Play fast and play physical. Play football. Win every game you can," said Kaleb Ganoe, a wide receiver for the team.
Just weeks ago, Chris Booth was hired as the team's fourth head coach in the history of the program. He was previously the head coach for the Peterstown Middle School football team. So far, he says that the transition has been smooth.
"It's been great. I mean, the eight days that we've done so far have been great. I'm looking forward to the late July and August grind and getting back to practicing and trying to get better each and every day," Booth said.
In recent years, the Mavericks have had a lot of success on the gridiron, making the playoffs in each of the last three seasons. The players believe that Chris Booth is the man to keep that successful trend going.
"I'm real excited. I feel like we can make a pretty good run this season. I feel like with Booth coming up, you know, the legacy he made at Peterstown and to be bringing that to James Monroe is really exciting," Ganoe said.
The Mavericks new head coach will be put to the test when the team opens up the 2018 season against Greenbrier East on August 24.
