NCAA rule changes impact college football

Two major rule changes were enacted on Wednesday by the NCAA's Division I council regarding player transfers and red-shirt years.

The new rule for transfers simplifies the process for players that wish to leave their school for another. Transfers may now leave without asking their current school for permission to do so, which is something they previously had to do.

Now, student athletes will have their names entered into a national database so that other coaches can contact them and gauge interest.

The new rule change for red-shirt players states that players can now participated in up to four games in a red-shirt year, and still retain that extra year of eligibility.
