A former employee of the West Virginia Parkways Authority has entered a guilty plea to felony embezzlement for stealing thousands of dollars from the agency.

Patrick Brady Springman, 47, of Bluefield, WV entered the plea agreement on Wednesday in Kanawha County Circuit Court.

According to a news release issued by Prosecuting Attorney Charles Miller, Springman admitted to taking $41,048 in cash from June 1, 2017 to October 26, 2017.

Springman was a messenger for the Parkways Authority. Part of his job was "to pick up cash, checks and money orders paid to the Authority at various location along the WV Turnpike" and deposit the funds into a bank in Charleston. An investigation was launched after $116,000 went missing. Officers were able to recover unaccounted checks and money orders during a search of Springman's home.

Prosecutors have recommended probation and full restitution. The sentencing hearing was scheduled for August 8.
