WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS (WVVA) -

The Greenbrier Classic is just over a three weeks away.  Today officials at the Greenbrier outlined a plan for the tournament this year to be a salute to the military.

Governor Jim Justice and owner of the Greenbrier Resort said, "I don’t think there’s any place that has a military history like the Greenbrier that is more suited to have an event that would be a tribute to the military…”

For the PGA tournament there will be a military appreciation day, a fly over on July 4th, military members and veterans will get in free and there will be a Stars and Stripes badge for sale. Greenbrier officials say part of the proceeds for that badge will go to a cause that benefits military and veterans.

Governor Jim Justice also said the Greenbrier Classic is putting in a request to the PGA to change the tournament’s name to keep with the new theme. “Tomorrow we will be requesting for the PGA to change the name of the Greenbrier classic to 'A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier'…”

Greenbrier Classic officials say early response to the new military theme has been positive. Habibi Mamone the Executive Tournament Director of the Greenbrier Classic said, “Oh yeah everybody is supporting it 150 percent. They’re very excited about it and any way they can help they want to be part of this…”

The military themed event tees off on Thursday, July 5th.

Grounds badges will be released on Wednesday and are available for purchase on the Greenbrier Classic website.
