James Monroe falls to Bridgeport in state semifinals

In 2017, the James Monroe Mavericks faced the Bridgeport Indians in the West Virginia AA state semifinal. The winner of that game was Bridgeport by a score of 4-0.

On Friday, the two teams squared off on the diamond again in the exact same round of the state tournament.

The Indians started off hot. Chapin Murphy hit a grounder at the bottom of the first, which scored Cooper Hineman to give Bridgeport the first score of the game.

It wasn't until the fifth inning when the momentum started to swing in the favor of the Mavericks. James Monroe scored twice in that inning, tying the game at three.

But it all game down to the bottom of the seventh inning. The Indians' Ryan Goff hit one straight down center field, which was enough to score a run, giving the Bridgeport the 4-3 victory.

The Indians will be looking for their fifth straight state championship on Saturday.
