Travelers not deterred by rain, construction on Memorial Day

MERCER COUNTY, WV (WVVA) -

With most people considering Memorial Day the official start of summer, comes many travelers hitting the road regardless of what they may encounter along the way.

Travel plazas, visitor centers, restaurants, and gas stations are packed as people travel to their Memorial Day destinations for the holiday weekend. Despite the rising fuel costs, and countless construction zones, summer traffic is continuing to move.

"We was going to do it anyway...it's well worth the money to go down and visit family, so gas prices really didn't affect us that much," said Brian Walker.

"Well, between the construction that's back there a bit...very frustrating, but, you know I guess they have to get the construction done, so like you know everything is moving along fine," said Flo Dament.
