Recognizing a local Veteran

Al Hancock served three tours in Vietnam and has been all over the world. He's 80 years old and is the oldest out of 5-children.

Hancock is a retired school teacher, originally from McDowell County.

Now a resident in Bluefield, West Virginia, he dedicates his life to serving other veterans.

Hancock joined "Always Free Honor Flight," a nonprofit that assists with transporting Military Veterans to the memorials of which they fought in. Hancock was with Honor Flight the first time they went to Arlington National Cemetery, a burial ground for more than 400,000 veterans and family members.

"It was quite an experience," Hancock said. "It was the first flight out of West Virginia and it's not everyday you get a chance to go to Arlington Cemetery."
