Beckley police chase ends in fugitive's arrest

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA) A late night police chase in Beckley ended in a fugitive's arrest on Thursday

Demetrious Porter, 24, of Bradley, Tennessee was taken into custody and charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana, and cocaine. He was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and fleeing from a police officer.

According to the complaint, it all started when Porter ran a red light at the intersection of 4th street and Robert C. Byrd Drive. After attempting to execute a traffic stop, it said Porter picked up speed and crashed into a utility pole. Two other people in Porter's car were taken from the scene by EMS. 

As officers searched the vehicle, they found 104 grams of meth, 60 grams of heroin, 27 grams of cocaine, and 54 grams of marijuana. A digital scale, $2,033 in cash, and a firearm were also recovered. 

Porter was a fugitive from justice for multiple felony charges in Tennessee and Georgia. 

Porter was transported to Raleigh General Hospital initially and later taken to Southern Regional Jail (SRJ), where he is currently incarcerated. 

Beckley Police also arrested Devonte Saddler, 22, of Chattanooga, Tennessee on the following charges; four counts possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.Saddler is also being held in Southern Regional Jail.

Bond for both men has been set at $100,000 each.
