McDowell woman headed to Hawaii for relief efforts

In a time when shootings and natural disasters happen at a moments notice, people like Dreama Burks are there responding and giving care to those in need of help. Dreama retired in 2012 as a licensed practical nurse but in September of 2017, things changed.

Red Cross had a shortage of nurses and made a call to Dreama for help. She took the next step and decided to sign up. One week after completing training, she was sent to Florida to help with clean up after hurricane Maria.

Then in November, she was dispatched to Sutherland Springs, Texas. A gunman walked into a church and opened fire, killing 26 parishioners at First Baptist Church. Dreama went to the church to do whatever she could.

Tomorrow, Dreama is headed to Hawaii, helping restore people's lives during this volcano.

"We don't ever know exactly what our role will be," Dreama said. " But one of our main roles is to see if someone is hurt,. If a person has burns, get them the care that they need."

Dreama says she will be in Hawaii for at least 10-15 days.
