UPDATE: Big rig overturns on I-77

MERCER COUNTY, WV (WVVA) -

Traffic is now moving on Interstate 77 in Mercer County.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a tractor trailer, hauling lumber, overturned in the median and dumped its load on the interstate. Debris from the wreck was in both the north and southbound lanes.

All lanes of traffic were reopened around 4:45 p.m. However, drivers can still expect delays due to congestion

The driver of the big rig was not injured.


Traffic has been reduced to one lane on a section of Interstate 77 in Mercer County.

According to highway officials, the driver of a tractor trailer, traveling northbound, lost control and overturned in the median. The big rig was hauling lumber at the time.

Debris from the wreck forced the closure of the southbound lanes near mile marker 5.5. One lane northbound is also closed. Drivers can expect major delays. 

The driver of the big rig was not injured in the crash.
