I77 Road Project will begin next week

Things are about to get really busy in Princeton.

The West Virginia Division of Highways confirmed they will start the initial set-up work on I-77 Northbound, before rerouting commercial vehicles from Bluefield to Princeton. Weather dependent, construction work on I77 is expected to begin later next week.

Some estimates have 7,018 wheelers passing through Princeton everyday. That truck traffic will be diverted off I77 onto route 460 Eastbound into Princeton. That's so truck drivers can reconnect to 77 Northbound at exit 9.

Rachelle Coburen is employed with Lindsey Optical, which is located directly across from 460.

"I know the construction needs to be done," Rachelle said. "We always have to keep our roads up. But it's going to cause a delay for people that work here and in the area. Everyone's going to be rerouting."

Rachelle's co-worker, Andrea Carrington, agrees.

"It's going to hinder our patients and making them late for their appointments. It's eventually going to set us back as a business."

Division of Highways says they'll issue a press release next week, with additional information specifying a tentative schedule and traffic phasing. They do not expect Monday's set-up phase to have any significant impact on traffic.
