Former Raleigh County prosecutor wins delegate nomination

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVVA) A former assistant prosecuctor for Raleigh County wins in a landslide his party's nomination for the 29th District.

Republican Brandon Steele beat challenger Zachary Meador 66-33 on Tuesday night. That means he will go on to challenge Democratic incumbent Del. Ricky Moye in the general election in November, 2018.

In an interview with Steele on Tuesday night, he outlined to WVVA News some of his first steps in office if elected.

"First thing I want to do is cut out good time credit in jails and prisons for repeat offenders. I want to fix our habitual offender code so we can get violent offenders put away for a longer period of time. And get funding for faith-based rehab places like Brian's Safehouse and the Sparrow's Nest so that the folks that are doing the hard work get the funds they need to take  care of it."

Steele currently owns a law practice in Beckley.
