PRINCETON, WV (WVVA) -

On Monday, there was a special group of people riding bikes through our area to honor fallen police officers and their families.

The Law Enforcement United Long Ride Group started riding bicycles in St. Louis, Missouri, and they're now headed to Washington DC.

The group is made up of active duty and retired officers, as well as an officer's widow. They're all riding to pay respects to officers and to help support their families.

The group made a stop in Mercer County to honor fallen Bluefield Police Lieutenant Aaron Crook.

With the physical toll and harsh conditions they ride through, participants considered it an honor to visit with Lieutenant Crook's family. They presented each officer and family members with a special shoulder patch.

The group spent the night in Princeton and will head to Roanoke, VA on Tuesday where they will meet up with officers from other regions of the country. The riders will peddle into the nation’s capital on May 12.
