Hinton's Railroad Days will continue this fall

A tradition more than 50 years old will continue in one Summers County community.

Hinton's "Railroad Days" was in jeopardy when Amtrak made a decision earlier this year to discontinue excursion routes like the New River Train Excursion.

It looks like the Collis P. Huntington Railroad Society, Inc. was able to reach an agreement with Amtrak. Tickets are now on sale for the Huntington to Hinton route.

Railroad days will take place in Hinton on two weekends in October, 20-21 and 27-28. According to the Hinton Railroad Museum, vendor applications will be mailed out next week.

Glad this #WV tradition is on for this fall, and I’ll continue doing what I can to support this important local event.--Tweeted U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito

According to Summers County Commissioner Jack Woodrum, the annual event brings in an additional $400,000 to the community of Hinton and more than $1.5 million to Summers County.

The New River Train Excursion has taken place since 1966.
