Planning Commission to review zoning laws for Lewisburg District

Posted:

The Planning Commission is working with West Virginia University law school to review the zoning ordinance for Lewisburg District in Greenbrier County.

One of the most recent zoning spats is about the West Virginia Renaissance Festival. The owners of the festival want an exception to the current zoning ordinance to be able to run a festival in an area zoned as "open space conservation". The owners say the festival will help West Virginia's tourism industry. The exception was recently denied by the board of zoning appeals. A neighbor of the festival says exceptions to the current zoning ordinance will negatively affect property values in the area.

The owners of the festival have until May 3rd to file an appeal. The festival is set to take place in June. Any changes to the zoning ordinance will have public hearings and wouldn't take effect until this fall at the earliest.
