15th Annual Greenbrier Valley Polar Bear Plunge

Sixty plungers gathered for the 15th Annual Greenbrier Valley Polar Bear Plunge at Ronceverte Island Park.

People from all walks of life jumped into the freezing Greenbrier River to raise money for the Children and Youth Advocacy Center of Lewisburg, dedicated to helping victims of child abuse.

Everyone from colleagues and bosses to families and seasoned plungers leaped in.

Even Greenbrier County Judge Jennifer Dent, plunged for her third year. One of many people who decide to jump today was the pastor of a local church, Mr. Jesse Pope.
"I issued a challenge to my church people that if they would raise enough money that I would jump in the river, and Barbara took over. They raised all the money, so here I am for the kids," said Pope.

Overall, the plunge raises over 21,00 dollars.

"It shows that the child abuse epidemic that we have across the country, everyone can pitch in and help out, it doesn't matter where you come from or who you are," said Christian Giggenbach, president and founder of the Greenbrier Polar Bear Club.
