Ansted Fire Department receives improved ISO rating

Good news for those living in and around Ansted, as a new Insurance Service Office rating for the Ansted Fire Department means reduced homeowner's insurance rates for residents. The new rating also puts the department in good company.

The results of the October ISO inspection just released in February, elevates the department's rating from a class five to a class three ranking.

"Of 46,000 paid and volunteer fire departments in the United States, there's 3,400 class three,” fire chief Mike Gray said. “And now we're proud to say we are one of them."

For the nearly 30 volunteer firefighters of the Ansted Fire Department, the new ranking is a source of pride, but for the community, it means homeowners won't have to dig as deeply into their pocketbooks.

"Starting in May, most insurance companies will re-evaluate the rates in the area,” deputy fire chief Pat Gray said. “So for residents within five miles of the fire department, they should see a favorable adjustment in their rates."

The class three ranking puts Ansted Fire Department among, and even above, some paid fire departments.

Chief Gray hopes the new ISO rating shows the community that his department is one worth fighting fires for.

"We're always looking to get somebody that's dedicated and wants to help their community,” Gray said. “You can't buy that. You can't buy the dedication that we have at our fire department.”
