WV Dept. of Education announces all county school districts will be closed Monday

Posted:
MERCER COUNTY, WV (WVVA) -

According to the West Virginia Department of Education's website, public schools in all 55 counties will be closed on Monday, March 5th.

A separate statement released by the Mercer Co. School board, stated the following:

"Based upon our survey of employees, we do not believe we can offer a quality instructional environment and will not be able to provide proper supervision on Monday, March 5th.  Therefore, all schools in Mercer County will be closed on Monday, March 5th.

This closure of schools will not result in loss of instructional time for our students.  West Virginia law requires school systems to make up all missed instructional days.  As a result, all instructional days lost will be rescheduled in the calendar at a later time.  Any changes to the calendar will not impact the high school graduation date of May 25, 2018.

We have established a process to where we plan to announce each evening at or around 6:00 P.M. if school will be open or closed.

We remain hopeful an agreement will be reached soon.  Additionally, we will also post school closing information to the WVDE website, the MCS website, and to Facebook.  Local media outlets will also be contacted.  Thank you."
