Auditions conclude for talent competition

In Summers County, today was the second day of auditions for the 5th annual Hinton's Got Talent.

Inside the auditorium at the historic Summers Memorial Building, over 20 singers, musicians, and dancers, are vying for just 12 spots in the competition. Keith, Leah, and Susan are a family group called Jonben Slate. They chose to perform a classic Eagles' song. Susan says harmony runs in their blood. Susan says, "Absolutely. I guess, where you just grow up together, and you've been singing for so long, your voices just kind of blend in together. It just goes from there."

The competitors at Hinton's Got talent are no joke. The winner of the Youth Category in 2015 is now competing on the NBC series "The Voice". Youth competitors Raven and Jasmine are hoping to follow that same path. Raven says, "I think that's really cool because you never know how far you're going to go."

Besides giving local talent a chance to shine, Hinton's Got Talent also raises money for the Hinton Hope Foundation. Laura Lilly says, "The money raised from Hinton's Got talent goes towards awarding a scholarship to a Summers County high school senior. It's a part of our mission, which is to give back to the community."

Hinton's Got Talent will take place on April 7th at Summers County High School. WVVA's Bethany Reese and Joshua Bolden will be there to host the event.
