RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WVVA) -

West Virginia State Police and the Raleigh Co. Sheriff's Dept. are investigating an officer-involved crash that happened early Saturday morning.

According to Beckley Police Chief Lonnie Christian, the accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, when a police cruiser collided with a vehicle at an intersection, as the officer was responding, with lights and siren, to a high speed chase.

Chief Christian says the vehicle involved in the collision was not involved in the pursuit.

Two occupants of that vehicle were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The officer involved in the wreck was also checked at the hospital and later released.

The Beckley Police Dept. requested that State Police and the Raleigh Co. Sheriff's Dept. conduct an independent investigation of the crash.

Despite some social media reports, there have been no reports of fatalities stemming from the accident.

WVVA News is working to get more details on the high-speed pursuit that led to this accident.
