2 local students admitted to the West Point, U.S. Naval Academy.

U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) announced today new admissions to the U.S. Military Academy and U.S Naval Academy.

Vaughn Thacker, of Mercer County, has been admitted to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and Trenton Begley, of Raleigh County, has been accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy.

Rep. Jenkins congratulated both the students and their families.

Vaughn, son of Bill and Bonnie Campbell of Princeton, is a senior at Princeton Senior High School. He is the captain of the football and wrestling teams, a JROTC battalion commander, and a member of the Madrigals Show Choir, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the school’s prayer club.

"He is a driven, determined young man with an exemplary character and work ethic,” said Rep. Jenkins. “His admission to this prestigious academy is a testament to his hard work, and I know he will represent our state well. I am grateful for his willingness to serve and wish him all the best.”

Trenton, son of Christopher and Katessa Begley, of Fairdale, is a senior at Liberty High School.  Trenton is a member of Liberty High School’s football and baseball teams, as well as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

"His admission to this prestigious academy is a testament to his hard work, and I know he will represent our state well. I am grateful for his willingness to serve and wish him all the best,” Rep. Jenkins said.

Both academies offered to the recruit’s admission to the Class of 2022.
