Flood Watch through 7pm Sunday: Raleigh, Fayette, McDowell, Wyoming, Buchanan and Pocahontas counties.

CURRENT WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES

(WVVA):Rain will continue and will be heavy at times through Sunday. Recent rain and some snow on the ground will cause excessive runoff of heavy rain that is expected this weekend.  There is the potential for more than 2-3 inches of rain through Monday morning, with locally higher amounts.

From the National Weather Service regarding flooding along the Greenbrier River:

"Those living along the Greenbrier River should begin taking precautions. There is still a snowpack in the upper reaches of the basin. If all of this snow melts during the peak of this rain event, this will greatly increase the chances for flooding.

The river level at Alderson is already half bank full from the last rain event, which means it will not take as long to reach flood stage if heavy rain occurs. Based on the latest forecast, if flooding occurs on the Greenbrier River it would be on Sunday and Monday.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop."
