SMYTH COUNTY, VA (WVVA) -

Police say the body of a woman was found a day after her vehicle was discovered lodged against a bridge support column.

The crash occurred sometime before 8 p.m. Wednesday near the Deans Branch Bridge in the Adwolfe area of Smyth County, Virginia. When a local wrecker service removed the vehicle later that night, the female driver was not inside.

The victim has been identified as Sarah D. Sanders, 37, of Abingdon, VA

Sanders' body was spotted Thursday morning by the Virginia State Police Aviation team about 2-3 miles downriver from the crash. Her body was removed and was sent to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Roanoke for autopsy.

A cause of the crash remains under investigation.
