Icy commutes possible Tuesday night - Wednesday morning

Posted:

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR FAYETTE, GREENBRIER, AND POCAHONTAS COUNTIES TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

(WVVA): Low pressure will then move into our area from the Mississippi Valley and interact with the stalled front late Tuesday night and into Wednesday. With warmer air flow, most of the precipitation will fall as plain rain Tuesday night and throughout the day Wednesday, though some mixing with ice and/or snow may be possible (especially N of I-64) where temps flirt with freezing. Snow accumulations of up to 1/2 inch and ice accretion of up to .10" will be possible in these areas. This will cause roads, sidewalks, and parking lots to become slick. Glazing of ice will be especially common on elevated surfaces, including bridges, so take it easy late Tuesday and early Wednesday! Rain could be also be heavy at times. As nightfall approaches Wednesday, rain will gradually make the transition to snow, continuing for a while into early Thursday morning, as temperatures bottom out in the low 20s. Snow amounts look little to none, with amounts staying at an inch or less for now, but slick roads may still be possible early Thursday. Drive with caution!

We look dry and tranquil through Friday, with another chance of rain arriving Saturday night-Sunday.

Stay tuned for snow forecast changes and updates!
