Teachers were protesting at various Mercer County schools on Saturday.
One group of teachers held signs in front of Princeton High School. West Virginia currently ranks 48th in the nation for average teacher salaries. Some also feel that their insurance premiums through the Public Employees Insurance Agency are too high. President of the Mercer County Education Association, Allen Cade, says they hope these issues can be peacefully resolved without any strikes. "We're trying to do a lot of things, to preempt a strike. Our goal is to... try to make legislators understand our point of view. And to help them understand that we are serious about it. So we are trying to be very visible. Like today, in several locations across Mercer County, there are teachers standing with signs, pointing out the... areas of contention."
Cade also says the Education Association greatly values support from the community.
