Hit and Run, pet store on fire


Beckley Police say they believe a man from the Hinton area crashed his truck into a pet store just before midnight on Robert C. Byrd Dr.  Police say the driver hit a gas line at Paradise Pets that caused an explosion and a fire. There are multiple vehicles near the scene of the accident with extensive damage. Firefighters conducted a rescue operation to save the animals inside, and some of them have been placed in safe locations. including some reptiles and birds. Beckley Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a green Ford F-350 pickup with a flatbed. Officials also say they believe the driver's first name is "Jimmy." The Raleigh Co. Sheriff's Office is investigating.

Robert C. Byrd Dr. near the Maxwell Hill and Rural Acres intersection is closed to traffic.
